As you’re doubtless aware, I do love me some dice… and I also like things which are quirky. So when I was followed on Twitter a few days ago by someone with the username @FablestoneDice, and saw the following bio, I knew I’d have to check out the Kickstarter…
Fablestone Dice – a.k.a. Gary Butler – has created some charmingly quirky dice called Bone Origins. But they don’t just look good: they’ve got a rather cool function, too… because the six-sided dice (d6s) don’t have numbers in the traditional sense, they can also be easily used as d2s (coin flip) and d3s – and if you’ve got a pair (or roll twice), as a d12!
[To get the d12 functionality, roll one d6 to get the 1-6 result, and roll a second (or roll again) as a d2; if the d2 comes up heads, add 6 to the d6 roll. Voilà, 1-12!]
Gary’s Kickstarter is already funded, but you still have 8 days to make a pledge, and stretch goals unlock additional die and dice-bag colours, including a glow-in-the-dark one (which I really want)! Pledge levels start from £10 (about $15); pledges of £16 (~$24) and above will snag you at least one dice bag; and pledges of £21 (~$32) of above enable you to choose the colours you want out of all those unlocked by the time the campaign ends. I love the look of all of them, so I went in at the £21 level to be able to have some of each 😀
And if you’re not quite enticed: Shipping is FREE, anywhere in the world!
I can’t describe how excited I was when I laid eyes on these beautiful things, and I just knew I had to pledge… December (estimated delivery time) can’t come fast enough for me! 😀 I’d also love it if the additional d8s and d10s were unlocked – though that’s at £25,000, and the campaign’s closing in on £4,000 at the moment. The additional dice enable you to use just three dice to function as the seven (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, d%) you’d normally have at your disposal for your dungeoneering adventures.
Anyway, repeating every little detail from Gary’s Kickstarter campaign page would be just silly, so go take a look, because there’s a fair bit I’ve not included, and it might just give you the impetus to get some for yourself! 🙂 Thank you so much to Gary for coming up with such a cool twist on the usual polyhedral dice – and thank you for following me in the first place!
